Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (also called endodontia) is needed when the blood or the nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury.

WHY IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT NEEDED?

If the pulp becomes infected, the infection spreads through the root canal system of the tooth. This may eventually lead to an abscess. If root canal treatment is carried out, it may save your tooth for several years without pain and discomfort.

WHAT IS MICROSCOPIC ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Endodontist are dentists who specialize in saving teeth through endodontic therapy; the procedure known as root canal treatment.

Minimally Invasive Endodontics also known as micro-endodontics (microsurgical endodontics). Is an aspect of the root canal treatment procedure that evolved after the introduction of the Dental Operating Microscope (DOM) to endodontics.

You may ask how a microscope could help a dental practioner in treating a root canal?

The recent addition of a dental operative microscope (DOM) to endodontic therapy allows for better visualization and management of intricate morphology of the root canal system during endodontic procedures through magnification and greatly improved high intensity lighting.

Cases once seemed difficult & impossible can now be treated with a high degree of confidence & clinical success.

DOES IT HURT?

Root canals now a days do not hurt. A local anesthetic is administered to make the tooth numb, and it should feel no different than like having an ordinary filling done.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

The aim of our root canal treatment is to remove all the infection from the root canal system. The root canal system is then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to receive a biocompatible root canal filling material inside, which prevents further seepage and re-infection in later years of life. A strict protocol is followed during the root canal procedure with all precautions to maintain a sterile environment to gain the maximum outcome from the treatment. Root canals now a days can be done in single visit also but the tooth in question should fit in the said indications of a single visit root canal treatment. Apart from single visit, the multiple visit root canal treatment include, root canal re-treatment, non- surgical root canal treatment & non – surgical root canal re-treatment. These cases they require multiple visit and a strict radiographic follow-up protocol to be followed to gain maximum success out of the treatment.

After the root canal treatment is completed it is filled by a permanent tooth – coloured filling material.
